Edison returns to profit in the first half

The energy company posted a net result of 152 million euros, against the loss of 49 million recorded in the same period last year – Turnover is also growing – Edison expects that for the whole of 2013 EBITDA will be around billion euros.

Edison returns to profit in the first half

Edison ends the first semester with a net result of 152 million euros. The energy company is thus back in profit after filing the same period last year with a loss of 49 million. Also growing are the revenues, which went from 5,8 to 6,248 billion on an annual basis. The gross operating margin rose from 301 to 670 million.

“In a scenario of weak demand for electricity and gas and increased competitive pressure – reads a note from the company – Edison closed the half year with a positive performance both in the electricity and hydrocarbons sectors”.

The first "benefited from the good hydraulics of the period and from the optimization of the portfolio", while the second "recorded the positive conclusion of the arbitration for the gas supply contract from Algeria in April of this year and the further agreements for the supply of gas from Algeria and Qatar in July”.

Edison predicts that for the whole of 2013 EBITDA will be around one billion euros. Meanwhile, in Piazza Affari, the company's savings shares begin the session with a jump of more than six points.
