Summer in the Gargano between culture and a protected environment

The 2021 Edition of FestambienteSud finds in the Next Génération Eu the synthesis between culture, traditions and sustainability.

Summer in the Gargano between culture and a protected environment

And now in Vieste and in the Umbra Forest: from July 31st to August 2nd. Always in the heart of the Gargano, where organized crime tries to get their hands on activities related to tourism, culture and natural heritage. In a few days, the 17th FestambienteSud will move from Monte S. Angelo to two other well-known locations in Puglia. The first stage ended on July 25 in a Unesco Heritage area. But both the first and the second meeting aim to represent a turning point in the economy and in the vision of the world. Something “that starts from a cultural revolution” they said here. The values of the earth together with those of the traditions. Once again young people are protagonists and with them artists, musicians, committees, simple nature enthusiasts.

The Next Green Generation Eu has therefore lent itself wonderfully to the ideas of the organizers of the 2021 edition. For this reason they have decided to give life to EcoForum on the economy circular and on agroecology. The EcoForums are community meeting places. They serve to confront each other and environmentalists are good at organizing them. If you do them in a region like Puglia - for years at the top of the rankings for attractiveness, artistic and natural beauties - it's difficult not to be successful. That's how it goes, after a year and a half of punishment, drowned in physical and mental isolation.

Among nature reserves, pastures, centuries-old olive groves that inspire writers, directors, stone and wood craftsmen, guests discussed - and will discuss - about the environment, territory, waste, separate collection. Of new models of producing and consuming, said the vice president of Legambiente Vanessa Pallucchi. Messages for tomorrow, but which already have some feedback in practice. Like those of virtuous Mayors in managing their own cities. They don't have easy tasks. When they manage to build consensus, sociability and services must be rewarded. Fortunately, the rhetoric of communal heroism has no place in these demonstrations. However, the promoters of the Festival took the opportunity to award some of these Apulian Mayors the title of Recycling Municipality.

Young volunteers are making a difference by also dedicating themselves to particular focuses such as the round table-laboratory dedicated to the state of the art of the circular economy in the province of Foggia. The historic area of the Capitanata was examined in its salient aspects giving strength to the words of Franco Salcuni, cultural director of FestambienteSud: “We need to overcome an economic system and an idea of productivity detached from the environment to move on to an economy that poses the problem of sustainability and the circular economy”. The system will be ring-shaped, as some scientists say, in the sense that inside there must be room for mobility, culture, participation, social and creative spaces. With a caveat, though. When more sustainability policies become governance policies at international, national and regional levels, all the more we need to be vigilant so that those words do not become institutional greenwashing. Not bad, as the beginning of a budding cultural revolution starting from the Gargano.
