Circular economy: for and against in a public debate at the Circonomia festival

The Circonomia Festival in Fano now in its ninth edition. The “process” of the ecological transition among the key events

Circular economy: for and against in a public debate at the Circonomia festival

The world as we would like it: an idea that we have carried within us for centuries. The era we live in is measured by an extraordinary passage that calls into question the very existence of the planet we inhabit. The ecological transition, we hear, is not a gala lunch, to borrow the old definition mao tse tung on the Chinese revolution.

The description became so intriguing that Saturday March 9th in Fano a trial to the ecological transition will take place. The title is: “Ecological transition: gala lunch or social massacre?”. The opportunity for the public hearing is given by Circonomia Festival (7-10 March) which will bring together representatives of the defense and the prosecution. Any names? The journalist Francesca Santolini, the president of Legambiente Stefano Ciafani, the environmental engineer Annalisa Corrado, the former CEO of Enel Francesco Starace, in defense of the transition. Journalists Giuliano Ferrara, Patrizia Feletig, the energy expert Joseph Zollino, to support the accusation. It is "a unique opportunity to delve deeper into crucial issues related to ecology and the transition towards a circular economy" says the invitation.

A new vision of the economy

Mortgaging events that have not yet happened is wrong, but the process will be the cross-section of Italy. The country that in its long history has never stopped dividing on everything. The topic is divisive because it mixes ignorance with misinformation. The second is more devastating than the first because it uses very powerful tools that leave no time to study and delve deeper. Will the personalities invited to Fano abstain from radicalism? Is this a risk that the organizers of Circonomia calculated when they declared “Fano the Italian capital of the ecological transition”?

There are definitely some competent people on the guest list. But those who oppose the need for an epochal change in the way of producing and consuming, shared by the vast majority of Italians, will have to convince the supporters of the transition. He will have to use strong arguments, be persuasive, hoping to get someone on his side. We hear of opinions that want to overturn a belief that derives from the struggle to deal with climate change.

In its activity, Circonomia makes use of a large group of partners to support the common home of those who believe in the circular economy. “The circular economy is much more than eliminating or minimizing waste production: it is the most appropriate and eloquent metaphor of a radically renewed vision of the economy” reads the site. The festival is a good opportunity for discussion, but it is difficult to share the progress of a process on something of which one is a fervent supporter. Unless the court has already been diverted.
