Ecobonus at the start to scrap polluting cars

The bonus to bring down older cars is part of the government's strategy to bring down CO2 levels. From the 28th, reservations for the purchase of used cars

Ecobonus at the start to scrap polluting cars

Sustainable mobility also takes care of used cars. 40 million euros of the Sostegni Decree bis enter into circulation (it should be said) from Tuesday 28 September. Car dealerships have the option to take incentives through the platform, created by the Ministry of Economic Development. And another step forward on the environmental cleaning of cities, after last week the EU had established that 11 Italian cities are among the most polluting in Europe. Also, evidently for automotive exhausts.

Used cars in Italy with more than 11 years of seniority are two thirds of those in circulation. The sales market has been under pressure for some time and the commercial network, according to ACI, has lost 7% in one year. There have been the effects of the pandemic, but also less circulation during the lockdowns. The support measures therefore have the aim of also marking a recovery in sales and the market can be enriched with quality products. From Tuesday low-emission M-1 type vehicles can be booked, Euro class cars not lower than 6.

Interesting the price mechanism up to 25.000 euros. It is the one resulting from the average market quotations not exceeding 25.000 euros, provided that there are emissions between 0-160 g/km of CO2. Attention: the bonus is recognized only with scrapping and differs precisely according to the emission range of the used vehicle that is purchased. This is the grid with the corresponding money :

  • 0-60: 2.000 euros;
  • 61-90: 1.000 euros;
  • 91-160: 750 euros.

It must also be clear that the scrapped vehicle must be of the same category as the one purchased, registered for at least 10 years and in the name of the buyer or a cohabiting family member for at least 1 year.

The small revolution on old cars is one of the measures for the reduction of pollutants due to motorization. It perfectly interprets what Italians think. The latest investigation Bad air of Legambiente established that 63% of respondents think that traffic in the city is responsible for almost half of the pollution. It circulates in urban centers an excessive number of cars, especially private ones, which certainly do not help the actions of public bodies, when they exist. Both at central and city level everyone expects an acceleration of decisions.

The end of September is just a few days away, but in the Report edited by Ipsos, the environmental association writes that "the adoption of anti-smog measures as early as this September '21 could be the only way to avoid exceeding the daily dust limits thin during the coming autumn and winter”. It's okay that you can always use the months to come and the decree that comes into force this week testifies to it. However, even the condemnation of Italy in 2020 by the European Court of Justice for having "systematically and continuously violated the limit values on PM10 concentrations". The Conte government was in charge; now by eliminating polluting cars something will have to change.
