Ecclestone: the British taxman asks him for a billion pounds

New offensive of British taxman against the head of Formula 1 Bernie Ecclestone. According to the HMRC (the British Crown Revenue Agency) the boss of the Circus owes to the taxman a billion pounds, equal to approximately 1,4 billion euros, for having withheld relevant information during a proceeding against him seven years earlier. Therefore, according to the Supreme Court of London, the agreement reached in 2008 with the English Crown is to be considered null and now the Formula 1 boss risks having to shell out an exorbitant sum.

The investigations are related to the family trust worth £3bn, which Ecclestone set up in 1997 in Liechtenstein. Ecclestone, however, relaunches and claims that the British tax authorities are wrong. “I only know that I have always paid everything I owed to the taxman,” Ecclestone said, adding that he did what his lawyers suggest: “it is the English taxman who is wrong”.
