Earthquake, Renzi: damages of at least 4 billion

The earthquake of 24 August in central Italy caused damages of at least "four billion euros: but it is an estimate that will have to be verified". This was stated by the prime minister, Matteo Renzi, during a press conference at Palazzo Chigi with the commissioner for reconstruction Vasco Errani and the head of civil protection Fabrizio Curcio.

The earthquake "affected not only the places where there were victims - he added - but created many injuries, especially in the Marche region. We will rebuild those territories where they were and how they were, even more beautiful than before if possible. Our goal is to rebuild the first houses, the second homes, the shops, everything as it was before".

Errani revealed that "to date, donations amount to approximately 15 million euros and have exceeded the amount collected for the earthquake in Emilia Romagna".

The Premier then underlined that for schools “all seismic adaptation interventions will be considered outside the limits of the Stability Pact, because it is unimaginable to worry about international technocracies more than the safety of our children. My appeal is to the mayors and territorial administrators: everything needed for schools must be allocated ".

Renzi also announced that "the tax measure that allows interventions in houses for seismic adaptation as well as for energy efficiency will be extended, whoever can will have the 65% eco-bonus also in 2017".

The decree on the earthquake will be approved by the Council of Ministers "no later than 2-3 October", assured Errani, explaining that "it will propose a clear mechanism for full recognition of the earthquake damage". Tonight there will be a deliberation in the council of ministers for the determination of the crater, a fundamental step for post-earthquake reconstruction, added Renzi. As for the Casa Italia plan, Renzi will sign a Dpcm by Monday "to formalize the mission structure led by the rector of the Polytechnic Giovanni Azzone and which will see the involvement of Renzo Piano".
