Died Victor Merloni, the entrepreneur from the Marches who is the historic patron of Indesit, the home appliance company now acquired by Whirlpool's Americans. The entrepreneur was president of Confindustria from 1980 to 1984. Merloni, 83, died early this morning in the emergency room of the Engles Profili hospital in Fabriano, his hometown. Merloni had been taken to the hospital for an illness. According to sources close to the family, the entrepreneur had been forced to undergo repeated checks in recent days due to a deterioration in his health.

Merloni, a graduate in Economics and Commerce from Perugia, was married to Franca Carloni. Four children: Senator Maria Paola, Andrea, Antonella and Aristide. His entrepreneurial career began in 1960, in the family business: the Merloni Appliances, which later became Indesit Company, was born in 1975. He chaired the company until 2010, when he handed over the presidency to his son Andrea, becoming honorary chairman. Indesit was then sold in 2014 to Whirlpool.
