E-Commerce, Poste Italiane launches the most advanced hub in Italy

Italian post inaugurates the largest e-Commerce hub in Italy. The innovative plant, built in Landriano (Pavia), covers an area of 80 square metres, 40 of which are covered. With a investment di 60 million euro, the logistics center adopts advanced technological solutions allowing its employees to sort up to 300 parcels a day.

In this way, the company led by Matteo Del Fante can guarantee rapid deliveries throughout the country. An important commitment in line with the development objectives indicated by the new “2024 Sustain & Innovate” Business Plan.

Specifically, the Landriano plant is equipped with a automatic system of the latest generation for sorting parcels, with the highest technological standards. These are 4 interconnected machines which automatically divide the parcels by destination and weight/volume on 694 outputs, allowing the management of envelopes, small parcels and extra-large ones for a total capacity of approx. 39 parcels per hour.

The sorting speed is guaranteed by an "autonomous mobile sorting" technology, equipped with 17 robots. Once ready, the parcels are loaded directly onto the vehicles which distribute them throughout Italy. Also, about 2.500 photovoltaic panels of the latest generation, they generate electricity capable of covering 80% of the plant's consumption, thus reducing about 210 tonnes of annual CO2 emissions.

“Landriano's hub – he commented Matthew Del Fante, Group Director – is a further step in the process of transforming Poste Italiane's logistics infrastructure which focuses on innovation and sustainability to better respond to the new online shopping habits of Italians. It is a strategic infrastructure that allows us to develop the logistics network along the entire value chain, to seize the full growth potential deriving from e-Commerce. In 2020 alone, Poste Italiane delivered 210 million parcels, becoming the first operator with a market share of 36,7% and launching an extraordinary path that will bring the share of revenues generated by the parcel business to over 2025% by 50 ”.
