Germany is officially a candidate to host the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which will have to leave London as a result of Brexit: the city chosen by the Merkel government is Bonn, the former capital of West Germany.
The German Ministry of Health has presented a candidacy dossier, which complicates the situation in Milan which was already facing competition from Lille, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Barcelona and now has a new strong competitor.
“If EMA were relocated to Germany – Health Minister Hermann Groehe explained in a statement – it could benefit from a concentration of experts and strong national partnerships at hand. The scientific and economic prominence of the Bonn context makes it a first-rate site”, underlines the minister.
