Europe must equip itself with a mechanism for the restructuring of banks in difficulty, to be implemented in a coordinated manner. This was stated by the president of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, defining it as "extremely important" to address this issue. Greater supervision of banks is therefore a "clear" goal to pursue.
Presenting a conference of the ECB and the European Commission, the number one from Frankfurt then reiterated how financial integration within the euro area is a fundamental factor for stability. According to Draghi, with the crisis the process has come to a halt and some countries have even taken steps backwards.
