Draghi: “The state of emergency will end on March 31st. The goal is to reopen everything”

From Florence, the Premier announces that the state of emergency will not be extended and that we are gradually moving towards overcoming the strengthened green pass.

Draghi: “The state of emergency will end on March 31st. The goal is to reopen everything”

Two years after the outbreak of the pandemic, on March 31, the state of emergency will officially end. From the same date we will gradually say goodbye to the reinforced green pass and the obligation to wear masks outdoors. This was announced by Premier Dragons during the visit to the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. “Our goal is to reopen everything, as soon as possible,” said the Prime Minister.

State of emergency, green pass and masks

The news had been in the air for days, but confirmation from the Premier finally arrives from Florence. The state of emergency, which allowed the Government to act through Dpcm and decrees and General Figliuolo to set up the vaccination campaign, will not be extended further.

“The Government is aware of the fact that the solidity of the recovery depends first of all on the ability to overcome the emergencies of the moment”, Draghi said, explaining that “The epidemiological situation is significantly improving, thanks to the success of the vaccination campaign”. By virtue of the improvements found, it will therefore be possible to "remove the residual restrictions on the life of citizens and businesses".

“I want to announce that it is the government's intention not to extend the state of emergency beyond March 31st. Since then, the colored zone system will no longer be in force. Schools will always remain open to everyone: in fact, contact quarantines will be eliminated. The obligation of outdoor masks will cease everywhere, and that of FFP2 masks in the classroom. We will gradually end the requirement to use the enhanced green certificate, starting with outdoor activities, including fairs, sports, parties and shows. We will continue to closely monitor the pandemic situation, ready to intervene in the event of a resurgence".

Dragons on Ukraine: "The abuses will not be tolerated"

A few minutes earlier, speaking at the inauguration of the CEI conference "Mediterranean frontier of peace", the Prime Minister also spoke of the Ukrainian crisis. "Events in Ukraine lead us to reiterate that prevarication and abuse must not be tolerated," Draghi said.
