Sleeping in the office? Now you can: here is the desk-bed

The idea comes from a Greek design studio, after Silicon Valley had already moved to institutionalize the afternoon "snap": Google uses black-out chairs to facilitate rest in the workplace - A study has shown that Americans burn $63 billion a year from lack of sleep.

Sleeping in the office? Now you can: here is the desk-bed

No, it's not laziness. Arrive at the office refreshed or, alternatively, have the opportunity to rest during breaks in the workplace, it's not for slackers and it's not even trivially pleasant and healthy: it's even essential to improve productivity. There are now several studies that demonstrate this, including that of the US health expert James Hamblin, who recently estimated 63 billion dollars the cost, each year in the United States, of lack of sleep.

Once the problem has been established, the solution remains to be found: how do you take a comfortable nap in the office between desks, noise and the comings and goings of colleagues? He tried it first Google with the so-called blackout chairs, but an even more original solution seems to have been devised by a Greek design studio: the desk-bed. The concept is the same as the sofa bed, but this time the mattress is hidden directly in the workplace, just a few centimeters away from telephones, computers, printers and paperwork.

“The idea came to me during my university years, when my classmates and I spent hours and hours studying and someone occasionally felt the need to rest, so he got by arranging the chairs so as to create a surface on which lie down,” he explains Athanasia Leivaditou from the NL studio, interviewed byHuffington Post. His idea is proving successful and has also been awarded at the A'Design Award, a competition for interior designers. While awaiting commercialization, we just have to close our eyes a little during some boring meeting…
