In the world of mobile telephony yet another historic operation is being prepared. After Google's purchase of Motorola and the recent one Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia, soon also the Canadian Blackberry could change hands. According to the Wall Street Journal, in pole position among the contenders there would be Lenovo, the Chinese computer giant, which would like to gear up quickly to compete with industry giants such as Apple and Samsung. Also in the running is a mega Canadian pension fund and Bain Capital.
Blackberry has gained notoriety in recent years with its smartphones that can handle e-mail easily, but in recent times it has failed to keep up with the competition. The American economic daily claims that the idea of selling began to take shape on August 12, when a team dedicated exclusively to studying the operation was apparently created. After the announcement of the Microsoft-Nokia marriage, however, the dossier would have undergone a sudden acceleration. Contacts with potential buyers have already begun.
