After GE, the Chinese from Midea want Whirlpool

FROM THE BLOG "LA CASA DI PAOLA" – The Asian giant Midea would be looking for further opportunities to grow after buying Toshiba's maiap sector and the German jewel Kuka, one of the world's leading robotics manufacturers.

After GE, the Chinese from Midea want Whirlpool

Whirlpool, the leading appliance manufacturer in the USA, and second after Haier worldwide, strategically decisive for the fate of thousands of employees in our country, especially after the acquisition of Indesit, is targeted by Midea. Which, thanks to its global leadership in the air conditioning and air treatment sector, has huge financial resources (turnover of 23 billion dollars, 8 in cash and 50 in market capitalization) and would be looking – as reported by Twice .com on Bloomberg rumors – of further opportunities to grow, after buying Toshiba's maiap sector and the German jewel Kuka, one of the world's leading robotics manufacturers. "Why not? – he would have replied to a question from Bloomberg-Paul Fang, president-CEO of the big Chinese company – we are interested in examining this opportunity, naturally if the right opportunity is created to do so”.

MIDEA, A FULL BILLION

Midea is already present in America with an important R&D operating structure that operates both as an OEM and with its own brand but with a turnover of only 500 million dollars. After Haier absorbed GE (household appliances sector) without batting an eye, paying out 5,4 billion dollars, and despite Fang's vague answers, the rumors in the American press are growing on this second hypothetical and colossal Chinese operation in a foreign land, in the homeland of Trump who has always spent himself proclaiming himself the defender of Made in the USA. Indeed, Fang also added that, alternatively, Electrolux wouldn't mind either. Midea is indeed a specialist in air conditioning but has also grown a lot in the household appliances sector (refrigeration, washing, cooking, cleaning and hot water production). According to Alan Wolf of Twice.com, a journalist who has never made a mistake in anticipating major Mergers & Acquisitions, the sale by shareholders - not even so opposed to doing so - could be opposed by federal controllers-regulators because it seems difficult for them to accept that after GE , even Whirlpool becomes “Chinese”. It is the first American producer of majap, and above all a symbol of the American way of life.

SEARS CLOSES AT WHIRLPOOL

Despite the difficulties of stalled markets and more complicated than expected acquisitions, Whirlpool remains one of the multinationals most committed to R&D with quality products and indisputable primacy, among the most attentive to the human factor, and truly cosmopolitan. Midea would surely win in every sector. 2017 will close shortly with some difficulties also at home for Whirlpool as the Sears chain, in a continuous crisis, after a long historic collaboration, has decided to no longer sell the group's washing machines and also the Kitchen Aid, Jenn Air brand appliances and Maytag. The collaboration for the Kenmore brand by Sears remains standing, for which Whirlpool operates as the exclusive supplier. Sears' measure - taken on the basis of questionable reasons - came immediately after the decision of the American authorities to condemn LG and Samsung for dumping activities in washing. What a coincidence… Marc Bitzer, CEO of Whirlpool icily commented that in the end the Sears business for the maiap corporation is worth only 3%.
