Dividends 22 November 2021: from Intesa to Poste, here are the autumn coupons

It will be held on Monday 22 November in Piazza Affari a mini “Dividend Day” with nine companies of the FtseMib and two companies listed, respectively, on the Mid Cap and on the Euronext Milan which will detach their coupon.

After the 2020 diet due to the pandemic and the stops imposed by the Regulatory Authorities, investors in 2021 will therefore proceed to collect, taking advantage of the growth in profits recorded during the year by many companies which, thanks to the powerful economic recovery, have decided to make "generosity" towards shareholders their forte. A trend that does not only concern the Italian giants, but is widely visible on a global level.

DIVIDENDS 2021: GROWTH IS DOUBLE-DIGIT

According to the latest edition of “Global Dividend Index” di Janus Henderson released a few days ago, in the third quarter of this year global dividend payouts recorded a 22% surge on an underlying basis (excluding special dividends, currency effect and other items), to $403,5 billion, a figure that represents an all-time quarterly high. Not only that, going into the details of the report, it is clearly visible that in 2021 90% of listed companies increased or confirmed their dividends, a trend that has led the Global Dividend Index to get closer (-2%) to the pre-pandemic peak touched in the first quarter of 2020. In the light of these data, Janus Henderson has revised upwards the estimates for the whole of 2021, forecasting overall growth of 15,6% to $1,46 trillion, a new record.

Contributing to these results are above all the mining companies, which doubled their dividends compared to the July-September 2020 period, bringing them to 54,1 billion, and those of banking sector, who once the ECB stopped are flooding their shareholders with a shower of coupons. From a geographical point of view, the greatest increases are recorded in Australia and UK. Significant increases also in Europe, Asia and emerging markets, while Japan and the United States showed below-average growth. “At the European level, the underlying growth was 28,8% and, although only around 10% of 2021 dividends were paid between July and September, 75% of companies increased their dividends or kept them unchanged”, commented Federico Pons, Country Head for Italy of Janus Henderson Investors. As far as our country is concerned, in the third quarter, “even Italy recorded a marked increase in the growth rate (+60%) compared to the previous quarter – he added”.

DIVIDENDS 22 NOVEMBER 2021: BANKS AND ASSET MANAGEMENT

After the feast of the past months, in Piazza Affari dividend season continues also in the last three months of the year. Among those who have decided to start with advances on 2021 profits, those who have instead decided to distribute the coupon on the profits of past years and those who detach the ordinary dividend, the dish is very rich. The key day of this last quarter will arrive Monday 22 November, when as many as 9 FtseMib big names will return to remunerate their members.

Let's start with General Bank which on Monday will detach a first coupon of 2,7 euros per share on 2019/20 earnings. The total amount exceeds 315 million euros, while the yield is 6,59%. It should be taken into consideration that in February 2022 the institute led by Gian Maria Mossa will distribute a second dividend from 60 cents per share (total 70 million) referring to the reserve for retained earnings from previous years.

Asset management returns to the fore with Banca Mediolanum and FinecoBank. The company led by Massimo Doris, after paying dividends in May and October for a total of 78 cents per share, will distribute an interim dividend on Monday 2022 (2021 earnings) equal to 23 cents per share. FinecoBank, on the other hand, will detach a coupon of 53 cents on 2019/2020 profits with a yield of 3,1%.

Let's move on to what has been considered the "queen company of dividends" for years, ie Intesa Sanpaolo, which on 22 November will detach the second 2021 coupon equal to 0,072 euro per share (1,4 billion in total) as an interim dividend on the 2022 dividend relating to the 2021 financial year. The yield will be 2,9%, but if at down payment on Monday the 13,53 cents already paid on the 2020 profits are also added, for this year we arrive at an overall dividend yield of more than 8%.

We also recall that the dividend policy pursued by the institute led by Carlo Messina provides for the distribution of a cash amount corresponding to a payout ratio of 70% of net profit based on this year's results.

There is also one of the big names in the sector listed on the main list Mediobanca which will pay an ordinary coupon of 66 cents per share.

DIVIDENDS 22 NOVEMBER 2021: THE OTHER BIG IN THE FTSE MIB

To the dividends of the giants of the banking and asset management sector that have returned to remunerating the shareholders after the stop by the ECB, those of four other FtseMib big names are added. In all four cases it will be an interim payment on the profits for the 2021 financial year.

Proceeding in alphabetical order, let's start with Recordati, which on Monday will detach a coupon (with payment on November 24th) equal to 53 cents per share. Poste Italiane, which in the first 9 months of 2021 recorded an increase of 31% to 1,2 billion inNet income, instead gave the go-ahead for the distribution of an interim dividend for 2022 of €0,185 per share (+14% year-on-year).

We close the picture with two energy companies. Among the oil producers, the protagonist will be Tenaris, which on Monday will detach an advance equal to 13 cents per share. The board of directors of Terna instead, it approved the distribution of an interim dividend on the ordinary dividend for the 2021 financial year equal to 9,82 cents per share, an increase of 8% compared to the previous year. The total amount exceeds 197 million euros.
