The youth unemployment rate rose again, reaching 41,2% in October, setting a new record since 1977, the year in which the series of surveys carried out by Istat began. The figure marks an increase of 0,7% compared to September and 4,8% on an annual basis.

The general unemployment rate was also at record levels, which, according to the Institute of Statistics, remained stable compared to September, at 12,5%. On an annual basis, the growth recorded is 1,2%. Again, such percentages had not been reached since 1977.

Despite the record rates, Enrico Giovannini, Minister of Labor in the Letta government, wanted to point out that, without government interventions, "the data on youth unemployment would have been even more negative", adding that "thetheir stability gives us hope that in the next few months employment may also increase”.
