Unemployment: France at record since 1999 (9,6%), in Switzerland it drops to 3%

The Transalpine Statistical Institute found that in the first quarter of 2012 the rate rose to 9,6%, which becomes 10% if we also consider the overseas territories - In Switzerland, however, unemployment is decreasing, especially youth unemployment, which at 2,8%.

The unemployment rate is growing in France, while it is declining in Switzerland. According to what was communicated by Insee, the transalpine statistical institute, in France the non-employment rate rose to the highest level since 1999: 9,6% in the first quarter of 2012, compared to 9,3% in the fourth quarter of 2011. Not only that: also considering overseas territories in the calculation, the figure reaches 10%. The increase is slightly higher than expected by economists, who had predicted a more moderate increase to 9,5%.

On the other hand, the neighbors of the Switzerland, where the unemployment rate fell to 3% in May: 0,1% less than the previous month. Compared to a year ago, however, the figure increased by 0,1%, according to what was reported today by the State Secretariat for the Economy (Seco). Good news especially on the youth front: unemployment of young people between 15 and 25, already very low, is decreasing from 3% to 2,8%, or 15.520 people in all, 1.149 fewer than in April.
