Bomb defusing: Italy divided in two

Italy divided in two for the defusing a WWII bomb. The bomb belonged to a US aircraft, weighs 450 kilos and was found in the municipality of Giove, in the province of Terni. The bomb squad of the VI Pioneer Engineers Regiment of Rome will detonate the bomb in the morning and for this reason several interruptions to the road system have been necessary.

In particular, from 10.45 to 13 the A1 motorway will be closed between the toll booths of Orvieto and Orte in both directions of travel, while from 11.30 the circulation of the Rome-Florence high-speed trains and the Rome-Chiusi regional trains will be blocked. There is also a ban on air overflights. The Province has also arranged for the closure of some sections of the Provincial Road 31 of Giove and of the 86 of Porchiano del Monte.

The population was evacuated within a two kilometer radius of the bomb's discovery point. Starting at 11.30, the Army specialists will carry out the operation in two phases: removal of the fuzes and safe transport for the blasting of the war residues in the Amelia quarry, in the San Pellegrino area.
