TV rights, it's a Sky-Mediaset duel

The crux is the recognition of the "retransmission fee", or the commission that the Biscione asks Sky to be able to rebroadcast exclusive Mediaset programmes.

TV rights, it's a Sky-Mediaset duel

The Mediaset group will ask the Sky group for recognition of "retransmission fee". This was announced by Gina Nieri, director of the Alfa Romeo group, explaining: "There will probably be an approach in the coming weeks to reach a commercial agreement" on the retransmission rights of the free channels. The Mediaset group's decision to ask Sky to open a table to reach a commercial agreement was mainly triggered by the Agcom ruling last March which established legal recognition for Rai's public service.

“If the public service has been recognized for its free offer that goes to payment – Nieri explained again – let alone for us at Mediaset. We will now assert our rights with formal deeds, also in the light of the increased legal basis of our request established by the Agcom resolution, which defined the dispute regarding Rai and Sky”, concluded Nieri.
