Dilemma Monti: split PDL, IDV and League against. Ok from Pd and Third Pole

Berlusconi and Alfano try to mend the rift by softening their positions in favor of early voting – Even for Giuliano Amato, who will perhaps be the new foreign minister, the Bocconi professor "is the right man" – Confindustria and Cisl are in favor - Di Pietro : we would not vote for confidence, only individual measures.

Dilemma Monti: split PDL, IDV and League against. Ok from Pd and Third Pole

The PDL splits and tries to mend. At the basis of the contrasts is the Hamlet-like doubt that has been haunting the Italian Parliament for a few days: for the post-Berlusconi government, a caretaker government run by Mario Monti or early elections?

on your part, the Knight has recently changed lines. After arguing for days that true democracy would require a return to the polls, he resolved to accept the idea of a new Executive led by the Bocconi professor, who he even defined an “inescapable” choice.

In the wake of the resigning Premier, also the secretary Angelino Alfano has softened its positions. Up to now he had pointed the finger at an alleged attempt to "turnaround", while today he limited himself to emphasizing that "the Colle will decide", even if officially the PDL remains aligned in favor of the vote. The Pdl, in any case, will meet again at the end of the consultations with the Head of State. Strategy that could lengthen the time for the creation of the new government.

The overtures of Berlusconi and Alfano they aim to avoid the definitive rift within the party. The ranks of the "disgruntled" pidiellini - mostly in favor of the caretaker government - could further expand, so much so that the hypothesis is making headway that they will come to form a new parliamentary group. Maurizio Lupi, Fabrizio Cicchitto and even Franco Frattini would also be against the polls. It seems that the foreign minister has not ruled out the idea of leaving the party together with other leaders if the prime minister and the secretary insist on early elections.

Most of the opposition and social parties also like Monti's name. Pd and Third Pole they said they were ready to support an executive led by the former European commissioner. “He's the right man”, said both Gianfranco Fini and Pier Luigi Bersani. The latter, however, specified that the Democrats want a broad understanding, without any "reversal".

Even the former Prime Minister Julian Amato – who is said to be able to hold the position of Foreign Minister within the new Executive – judges a possible appointment of Mario Monti as "highly positive". According to other rumors, Fabrizio Saccomanni, current general manager of Bankitalia, could be appointed to the Treasury.

The front of the no to the technical government is instead made up largely of an unprecedented pairing: League and Idv. "It's nice to be in the opposition," Umberto Bossi commented ironically, while Antonio Di Pietro has already clarified that he will not vote for confidence in the new executive, but could support some individual measures (such as the abolition of the provinces).
