Diffusion of optical fiber in Europe: Vodafone rewarded also thanks to Italy

Vodafone queen of optical fiber, thanks also to Italy. The operator would have made an "extraordinary contribution" to the adoption of optical fiber in Europe according to the FTTH Council Europe - an organization for the diffusion of optical fiber technologies - which awarded the British group with the "FTTH Operator Award 2014", during its annual conference in Stockholm.

Vodafone was especially rewarded for its investments in this type of technology in Italy, Spain and Portugal. Vodafone Portugal has reached over 700 homes with optical fiber and aims to reach 1,5 million by mid-2015.

Vodafone Spain, in partnership with Orange, has invested 1 billion euros in this technology and aims to reach 3 million homes in 2015 and double to 6 million in 2017.

Vodafone Italia offers fiber optic services in 37 cities and aims to serve 150 cities over the next 2 years, reaching 6,5 million homes.

"Our investments in Portugal, Spain and Italy will have increased considerably over the next two years - said Phillipp Humm, CEO of Vodafone Europe - as part of a project that includes 3 billion euros to strengthen the network and differentiate services in these countries".
