Dieselgate: USA accuses, FCA defends itself

The US Environment Agency has accused FCA of rigging the emissions of 104 vehicles sold in the US: thus a new Dieselgate is looming, after the one that overwhelmed Volkswagen, which for now is excluded from the Italian-American house: "Standards respected ” – Fca and Exor collapse in Piazza Affari – Marchionne: “Unjust accusations”.

Dieselgate: USA accuses, FCA defends itself

"Fca has inserted software capable of modifying the data on CO104 emissions into 2 vehicles sold in the USA": the accusation, serious and comparable to the one that overwhelmed Volkswagen by opening the Dieselgate case for the German company (which just two days ago ha settled for a $4,3 billion fine, acknowledging his own faults), always comes from the US Environment Agency but this time it falls on the head of Fiat Chrysler, who however immediately rejected the accusations. "Standards respected", defended the Italian-American company challenging the EPA statement, which specifies that the software "was installed on Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge models with 3.0 diesel sold in 2014, 2015 and 2016" .

FCA Us said it "regrets" in the face of the EPA's decision to have notified the company of a violation of the law, adding in a note its willingness to meet with representatives of the EPA and the new administration to demonstrate that the control strategies of emissions are "justified and are not defeat devices, and that the matter will be resolved quickly". Marchionne's group faces a potential fine of $4,63 billion, in line with what was negotiated by Volkswagen: however, the CEO rejected this comparison, defining the accusations as “unfair. FCA hasn't done anything illegal, these analyzes are different from those of Volkswagen."

While waiting to shed light on the matter, the news inevitably had repercussions on the markets: the FCA share in Piazza Affari was heavily affected, coming to lose more than 18% in a short time at 8,56 euros per share, only to close at around -16% in one overall negative session for the entire Ftse Mib price list. Exor, another stock in the Agnelli galaxy, is also suffering, closing at 40 euros per share, losing more than 9%.
