Dieselgate, Rome replies in Berlin but Merkel-Gentiloni meeting on Wednesday

Faced with German pressure on the EU to force FCA to recall the Fiat 500, Fiat Doblò and Jeep Renegade for alleged irregularities in the control of emissions from diesel vehicles, ministers Delrio and Calenda respond sulkily in defense of FCA - "Germany's requests – claims Delrio – they are inadmissible” – Calenda increases the dose: “If Berlin dealt with Volkswagen, it would not do a penny of damage” – Gentiloni from Merkel after tomorrow

On Dieselgate it is a white-hot clash between Italy and Germany. Faced with the pressure on the EU by the Germans, who are trying to make Volkswagen forget the scandal and fraud on polluting gas emissions and who are now making an instrumental request for FCA to recall the Fiat 500, Fiat Doblò and Jepp Renegade models, the Italian government responds with a bad face to Berlin by sending an unequivocal signal to Berlin as well.

"Those from Germany - declared the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Graziano Delrio - are totally inadmissible requests" because the recall of the FCA car in Europe has no technical basis. "We agreed to set up a mediation commission at the European Commission - added Delrio - exactly because we have nothing to hide".

The reply from the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, was even more dry, according to which if “Berlin deals with Volkswagen, it won't do a penny of damage. To the good connoisseur…..

The day after tomorrow, however, Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, on a visit to Chancellor Angela Merkel, will try to cool the tensions.
