Derby, Inter catches Milan in extremis

The exciting derby della Madonnina ends in a draw (2-2), full of debutants, starting with the two coaches Montella and Pioli – Inter played the game in the first half, regenerated by Pioli, but Suso stabbed them – Milan did better in the second half but Candreva first and Perisic in full recovery equalized Suso's new goal

Derby, Inter catches Milan in extremis

A draw in the last breath. The Milan derby ends with a 2-2 which goes better for Milan in terms of standings, although the modalities can only make Inter smile more. In fact, Perisic's decisive goal came in full recovery, just when the Rossoneri now felt they had a success that would have meant a sensational second place alone.

Instead it is the Nerazzurri who are last to rejoice but certainly not for the standings: ninth place at minus 8 from their cousins remains and is very far from the Champions League ambitions of the beginning of the season. The fault for this obviously does not lie with Pioli, who indeed had the merit of presenting a decidedly better Inter than in the past, although the formation was the same 4-2-3-1 as his predecessor De Boer. Little to object to Montella either: his Milan are in an unthinkable position in the league at the start of the season, and to say that it could have been even better…

"We mustn't be disappointed, on the contrary seeing Inter cheering for a draw as if they had won must give us a lot of satisfaction - commented the coach - I liked the desire to win from my parents, we could have even ended the game but we spent a lot , and then we mustn't forget that we are a very young team and that there may be some drop in tension. I don't see the glass as half full, I see it as completely full: our standings are really good".

Analysis in contrast with that of Pioli, who obviously cannot be satisfied for the point itself but for the test of pride yes. “I don't think we deserved the defeat, we played a good match even if we can clearly improve – he explained in the press conference – I tried to give the team more balance, in the first half we only played but unfortunately we conceded a few too many restarts. We weren't perfect but we put our heart and soul into it."

The result is essentially a deserved equal, with an Inter that tried to play the game and a Milan that ended up making the most of the weapons available. It was precisely in such a situation that the first goal of the match arrived, scored by the man who took the man of the match palm. Suso, in fact, was the main protagonist of the match: he made it 1-0 at the end of the first half with a splendid left-footed shot to beat Handanovic (43').

But Inter didn't break down and at the start of the second half they equalized with Candreva, who was very good at finding the seven with a right from distance (53'). A stalemate which however lasted very little: 5' later Suso, served by Bacca on the counterattack, jumped Miranda and shot Handanovic again from close range, this time with his right foot.

All finished? Not a chance! Inter tried in every way to equalize but managed to find it only in full recovery with Perisic, quick to take advantage of a corner just before the final whistle from Tagliavento (92'). The 2-2 final essentially reflects what was seen on the pitch and leaves both teams satisfied: Milan for an excellent standings, Inter for a derby caught up in the final.
