INDUSTRIAL DERBY - Confindustria in assembly at the Expo but Renzi goes to Melfi from Marchionne

INDUSTRIAL DERBY – Confindustria is celebrating its general assembly today at the Milan Expo but once again Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who does not like traditional associations and prefers direct confrontation with businesses and workers, will not be there and will instead go to the FCA of Melfi where Sergio Marchionne will present the relaunch programs

INDUSTRIAL DERBY - Confindustria in assembly at the Expo but Renzi goes to Melfi from Marchionne

It is the day of the grand derby and of the long-distance confrontation between two different visions of Italy and of development, enterprise and trade union relations that will take place today between Confindustria and Sergio Marchionne's FCA. And Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has already made his choice of field: he will once again desert the Confindustria assembly, which will exceptionally be held at the Milan Expo, and will fly to Melfi at the FCA plant where Marchionne will illustrate the development programs after the recent hiring of more than a thousand permanent workers.

Renzi sent the president of Confindustria, Giorgio Squinzi, a letter on the occasion of the Confindustria meeting in which he states that "we are finally seeing the solid signs of a turnaround in the economic cycle with exports strengthening and domestic demand recovering ”. “We need to regain impetus and confidence – adds the Premier – and look to the future with the optimism of those who are aware of their dedication and commitment. But above all to work together, united, for the good of our country and for a Europe that too will finally put the objectives of relaunching development, manufacturing and the real economy back at the centre”.

Renzi also thanks Squinzi, who will give his last report today to the assembly of Confindustria which next year will have to choose the new president of the industrialists, for the success of the Expo: "An event that is a huge success for Italy and a challenge won together and for this I would like to thank you”.

But beyond the form, Renzi's absence from the Confindustria assembly and his simultaneous presence in Melfi at Marchionne's is an important political fact and a precise choice of field with respect to which the Confindustria ranks are not lacking in disappointment. However, it is not a bolt from the blue. Renzi has never made a secret of not loving liturgies and inconclusive meetings with the old business and trade union organizations and preferring direct confrontation with entrepreneurs and workers. And he has never made a secret of preferring a dynamic vision of capitalism and of union relations themselves.

This is why a feeling was born between two innovators, such as Renzi and Marchionne (who controversially left Confindustria under the presidency Marcegaglia never to return) which today will be reaffirmed in Melfi with a visit to the Melfi plant which is also the scene of the success of the Jobs Act after the recent recruitment of over a thousand workers by Marchionne.

Renzi expected Confindustria to support the reform of the labor market with much more warmth than the previous governments were unable to do and did not appreciate the constant attacks suffered by his government by "Sole 24 Ore", the Confindustria newspaper. But his is not a spite but a precise choice of field because his innovative vision coincides with that of Marchionne who on several occasions has spared no appreciation to the Premier by openly saying that in a few months Renzi has done what previous governments have not been able to do in twenty years.

Today captures two different visions of Italy and Renzi's choice of side in favor of Marchionne is certainly not accidental even if it will not fail to cause discussion.
