Marcello Dell'Utri will go under house arrest. The Surveillance Court, accepting the request of the lawyers, ordered the postponement of the sentence for the former senator of Forza Italia, detained to serve a defined sentence of seven years for competition in mafia association. The provision was allegedly adopted due to health problems suffered by Dell'Utri, who needs treatments "not compatible with those offered by the penitentiary system", as well as due to his age (77 years) and psychological conditions. In recent months, in fact, the former Forza Italia senator has refused to undergo medical tests and has even sketched out a hunger strike.
" cardiac pathology from which dell'Utri suffers has undergone a recent e significant o aggravation compared to previous conditions and the negative repercussions of other complicating factors such as age, 77 years, radiotherapy treatment, oncological disease and psychic conditions are not secondary. The health professionals have reported the risk of unexpected death for acute cardiological events and concluded that they were not compatible with prison", reads an excerpt from the court provision which cites the reports of the prison doctors, dated 28 June and 5 July.
