Deliveroo takes charge: more investments in Italy

Deliveroo wants to grow in Italy. The platform for home delivery of food has decided to increase in our country which is also one of its main markets. Competition is fierce in the new home delivery industry as evidenced by the maxi-alliance between Takeaway and Justeat building a $9 billion group. Perhaps also to react to this advance, in the next 12 months Deliveroo plans to invest over 25 million euros in Italy which will be used to support expansion into new Italian cities also through advertising campaigns and promotions for consumers.

“Since the beginning of 2019 we have embarked on an ambitious plan by investing in the geographical expansion of our services. Today we are already present in 89 cities, from the north to the south of Italy, and by the end of the year our services will be available in over 150 cities,” Matteo Sarzana, general manager of Deliveroo Italia, told Radiocor. The trust of our parent company is an important motivation to do more and more. Even the tourist resorts - he continues - are giving us great satisfaction and this new trend in food consumption is already characterizing the summer of 2019″, concludes the manager.

Latest in chronological order, Jesolo, Lido di Camaiore, Quartu Sant'Elena, San Benedetto del Tronto, Montesilvano, Viareggio, Imperia, Fiumicino, and Lecce were launched a few months ago: they are responding very well to Deliveroo's services and it is observed a significant growth of over 220% since the first week of launch. Among these, the cities that have grown the most are Viareggio (+480%), Lido di Camaiore (+280%) and Jesolo (+450%). According to Capital Economics projections presented in April, if Deliveroo continues to grow at its current pace, its operations will support 5.900 jobs in Italy and have an economic impact of €130 million by 2020.

On Tuesday, the government announced the approval of a new decree in the Council of Ministers which should at least partially accommodate some requests from the riders, the boys and girls on bicycles recruited to make deliveries.
