Elections decree: tussle and green light in the Senate, it's law

After the thrill of Thursday's session, the majority is saved: confidence passes with 158 votes in favor out of 162 present. Voting takes place on 20 and 21 September for administrative and regional elections and referendums on parliamentary cuts

Elections decree: tussle and green light in the Senate, it's law

Finally, after the thrill of the Thursday afternoon session, the confidence in the Elections Decree, placed by the majority for approve election day that the next 20 and 21 September (Sunday and Monday) will merge, as assumed for some time, the regional and administrative elections and the referendum for the cut of parliamentarians. In Thursday's session "only" 149 parliamentarians were present in the Chamber, initially considered by the offices of Palazzo Madama sufficient to validate the session, which instead was then re-adjourned to today. “It was a technical error, not attributable to the presidency”, the president of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati made it clear before the nominal vote, who then mentioned the name of the vice president Paola Taverna, a 5 Star exponent who presided over the disputed session of the previous day.

After a verbal confrontation between the two, and amid protests from the opposition, the vote finally proceeded, this time valid: 162 were present in the Chamber today, of which 158 were voters. There were all 158 votes in favour, zero against and abstentions. The opposition, as already happened in the vote that was later cancelled, was not present in the Chamber. The risk run by the majority yesterday suggests that there will be tensions even for the next, and even more important, votes, such as when in a few weeks Parliament he will have to vote on the resolutions on the European aid package, starting with the highly contested Mes. For now, the compromise that Pd and 5 Star are attempting involves voting - before the European Council in July - on a vague document, which lists the tools made available by Brussels, Sure, Recovery Fund, Bei, Mes, postponing to a later date the vote on the actual activation.
