August Decree, all the criticisms of Federalberghi

For Italian hoteliers, the August Decree does not solve the crucial problems of the category: here's why

August Decree, all the criticisms of Federalberghi

The premise is one of appreciation. But, in fact, it is only the premise, of pragmatic. Because immediately afterwards the remarks and criticisms start. For hoteliers, the measures taken by the government in the so-called August decree are not enough, because – notes Federalberghi – “there are still important problems to be addressed”. Here they are.

1) To begin with, "the measure intended for places without foreign tourists must be integrated with the utmost urgency". Yes, but which ones? A very long list should be made, given that the final balance for the first seven months from January to July sees a 57,5% reduction in Italian tourists and 76,7% of foreign tourists. Therefore it is difficult to establish which places are "orphaned by foreign tourists", and Federalberghi itself recognizes the impossibility of mentioning them all, but try to give some examples: Sorrento, which hosts 2,4 million foreign visitors every year, equal to 88% of the total, Stresa (480 foreign visitors, 85% of the total), Taormina (900, 84% of the total) and Montecatini Terme (1,2 million, 73% of the total).

2) “It is also necessary to intervene on the front of rental businesses, which are suffering the brunt of the crisis more than the others. The one-month extension of the royalty tax credit is absolutely not enough, as well as halving the measure is unreasonable (30% instead of 60%) for cases in which the contract provides for the rental of the entire company and not just the walls”.

3) Hoteliers express “disappointment at the failure extension of the eco-bonus to 110% to hotel companies, even if it must be said that the resources allocated for redevelopment (180 million euros in 2020 and 180 million euros in 2021) are substantial".

4) It's not over. Furthermore, an intervention is necessary for hotel restaurants, which are unjustly excluded from the support intended for the purchase of made in Italy food products and continue to be inexplicably ignored by the law which favors the installation of outdoor tables, to address social distancing needs.

And the appreciations, on the other hand, what do they concern? The extension of layoffs, incentives for hiring and the reduction of the second IMU installment, but – here is another solicitation – “we ask that it be recognized also for properties where the owner and the manager are not the same”.

In short, the Federalberghi he hopes that in the next few hours "technical agreements will allow some initial improvements to be made to the decree" and in the meantime he announces "the presentation of a package of amendments aimed at improving the various measures".
