Public debt: 2.000 billion lire exceeded for the first time

Finally, as expected, even the last barrier was broken. The Italian public debt exceeded two trillion euros for the first time, reaching 2.014 in October. Naturally, this is the highest value ever recorded, which follows the 1.995 billion recorded the previous month.

The data emerges from the "Public Finance" supplement attached to the statistical bulletin of the Bank of Italy, which also underlines how tax revenues for the first 10 months of the year increased by 2,9% compared to the same period of 2011, reaching 29,6 22,7 billion in October, against XNUMX billion in September.

In the first ten months of 2012, revenues amounted to 309,3 billion euro, an increase of 2,9% on the corresponding period of 2011. Bankitalia data, however, do not correspond to the amount of taxes actually paid. The monthly flows are in fact recorded at the time of accounting in the financial statements which, since May 1998, no longer takes place at the same time as the payment.
