The president of the CDP, Franco Bassanini, shares the timing indicated by the Government to proceed with the full payment of the debts of the Public Administration.
“For current debts – Bassanini said on the sidelines of the presentation of the 2014 Outlook of the Istituto Affari Internacional – it could even be before July, because the mechanism provides that, as soon as there is a State guarantee, the banks will to settle these state-guaranteed credits and to pay companies. As far as capital account debts are concerned, financial coverage is needed for that and therefore I think the Prime Minister's goal of paying them off by 21 September is realistic".
The CDP, Bassanini reiterated today, will have a "subsidiary and possible role in the event that over time there were non-performing loans between the public administrations and the banks and then the CDP could take over these debts and restructure them over a longer period, 10 or 15 years".
When asked for a more general opinion on the new Executive, Bassanini replied that "if the decisions are followed by rapid implementations, then the Government will be able to have an extra gear and resume the path of growth and competitiveness of the country by tackling a series of problems starting from to youth unemployment. That Italy restarts is in the interest of the whole of Europe and of Merkel herself", concluded Bassanini with reference to thetoday's meeting between the Italian prime minister and the German chancellor.
