Datagate, France attacks the USA: tens of millions of phone calls intercepted

All against Washington. After Berlin and Brasilia, now it's up to Paris to raise its voice on Datagate, the scandal of the mass surveillance program unveiled by the NSA deep throat Edward Snowden. According to Le Monde, in just one month the NSA - the American security agency - would have recorded more than 70 million telephone calls in France.

The foreign minister Laurent Fabius immediately summoned the American ambassador in Paris, Charles Rivkin, after the rumors published by the French newspaper.

"These attacks on privacy between partner states are unacceptable - Fabius said - We must ensure, and quickly, that this cannot happen again".

After an initial wave of revelations in June about the US international surveillance program Prism, Paris opened a preliminary investigation in July into plans to spy on telephone and Internet communications.

In a 30-day period between December 10, 2012 and January 8, 2013, the NSA allegedly recorded 70,3 million French telephone conversations. According to what was revealed by Le Monde, the target of the American agency was also made up of people, suspected of having ties to terrorist activities, belonging to the world of business, politics or the French public administration.
