From SMEs 40% of work in Italy

Italy thrives on SMEs. Compared to other OECD countries, here the role of small and medium-sized enterprises is decidedly more important, in terms of both quantity and impact on the labor market. The universe of Made in Italy companies with less than 10 employees is endless: something like three million and 688 thousand activities, even 94,4% of the total. Another 3,7% is instead represented by companies with employees between 10 and 20 units, which reach 140 thousand. As for employment, SMEs guarantee around 40% of total jobs to Italians. There are seven million and 300 thousand people employed in companies with fewer than 10 employees, while those who work in companies with 825-10 workers stand at one million and 20 thousand. The figures were calculated by the Entrepreneurship Organization, which released its latest report today. Thanks to these numbers on the percentage of SMEs, Italy ranks seventh in the ranking of OECD countries. In the euro area, on the other hand, we manage to conquer the bronze medal, surpassed, at least in relative terms, only by our Greek and Portuguese cousins. And let's hope it's not an omen.
