Conquistador Marchionne lands in Mexico. Between Chrysler and Fiat, Sergio the American is no longer satisfied with the United States and is betting on Central America, announcing a 120 million euro investment to expand production at the Saltillo engine plant.

The investment will create 470 jobs. They will all feed into a production line for the Tigershark gasoline engines used in the Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee. In that same factory, large displacement engines (5,7 and 6,4 litres) are manufactured for the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands.

Mexico has also recently been the home of the stars and stripes version of the Ducato, the van that will be renamed the Ram Promaster in the States. In this case, the investment was over $1 billion. Production started in July and the van will be sold in Mexico, the US and Canada.

The Central American country is now a veritable Fiat hub: the American version of the 500 and the Freemont is born in Toluca. Not to mention Chrysler, which produced 284 vehicles there in the first eight months of the year.
