From 2015, Coca Cola will be drunk in pods: agreement with Green Mountain

In the future, we will drink Coca Cola in capsules, like espresso. A very near future, 2015 to be precise. The road to this turning point is paved by the news of the purchase of 10% of Green Mountain Coffee Roasted, one of the world's largest producers of coffee pods, by Coca Cola, for $1,25 billion.

Furthermore, the two companies have signed a 10-year agreement which will lead to the production of Coca Cola, Coca Light, Coca Zero, Sprite and Fanta in capsules. Thus, it will become possible to produce Coca Cola and its brothers directly at home, or in the office. The agreement, however, does not provide for exclusivity. Therefore, Green Mountain Coffee Roasted could also reach similar agreements with other beverage companies, above all Pepsi.

“We want to do for cold drinks – said Green Mountain CEO Brian Kelly – what was done with hot coffee and tea at home. We believe it is a significant opportunity to accelerate growth in the category."
