From Toyota a social network for drivers

Use the car as you do with Facebook or Twitter. This is the latest idea from Toyota, which is developing a social network for its customers. To help in the development of the service, in addition to Microsoft, there is Salesforce.com, an internet company in San Francisco.
The new platform will be called "Toyota friend" and will allow owners of cars signed by the Japanese company to interact via chat. The machines themselves will have their own profile, through which they will be able to "communicate" with their owners, for example to remind them when to recharge the battery.
Customers will be able to extend their network to include family and friends as well. The contacts will be able to be imported directly from the more traditional social networks. The company has announced that the service will be launched next year on the Japanese market together with the new electric vehicles.
“Social network services are radically transforming human interactions and communication in general – said Akio Toyoda, president of the house -. Car technology must wake up and evolve on this same path”.
Toyota thus followed in the footsteps of its competitor Ford. The American company has also worked together with Microsoft, in this case to develop a wireless multimedia system for its cars, called Sync.
