At least, on average, as much as its glorious French predecessor, retired since 2003: the new aircraft could make its maiden flight in 2020 and its top speed, to soften as much as possible the shock wave resulting from exceeding the speed of sound, will be just below that of the Concorde, and the materials lighter.
“We're even willing to go beyond the traditional idea of the aircraft made up of a fuselage and wings,” he announced NASA CEO Charles Bolden. Once completed, the supersonic jet will be able to accommodate 100 to 110 passengers and fly distances such as London-New York in 3,5 hours or Rome-New York in 4 hours.
