From roadmen's houses to hotels and restaurants: Anas launches the tender

The call for tenders for placing on the market, under concession, was presented this morning in Rome the first thirty roadmen's houses on the Anas road network. The redevelopment project of the buildings is the result of the collaboration between Anas, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the State Property Agency, which last December 2015 signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the enhancement of roadmen's houses. A technical table made up of the signatories has worked in recent months to define the methods for making the project operational and the standard of services that each roadman's house will have to offer to the road customer.

This first phase of the redevelopment project has included those houses which, also thanks to their geographical location, have the potential to develop synergistic services with the tourist-cultural enhancement plans of the area. The houses born in 1830, characterized by the Pompeian red color that made them famous and recognizable over time, they will become hotels, restaurants, bars and information points, remaining an important point of reference in support of motorists.

The first 30 houses undergoing redevelopment are located in Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio and Puglia. The renovation of the property will be the responsibility of Anas while the concessionaire will have the task of developing business activities in line with the guidelines of the tender, guaranteeing the basic services defined: overnight stay, bar and refreshment, free wifi, charging stations for electric vehicles and tourist information points.

For the president of Anas, Gianni Vittorio Armani, “the redevelopment project of the roadmen's houses represents an innovative management model, respectful of the landscape and the environment, which develops networking activities and enhances the company's real estate assets. The restructuring interventions, for which Anas has provided a investment of about 7,5 million euros in three years, starting from the current one, will help to enhance the value of the company assets and preserve it over time, supporting the local identity and at the same time creating employment, new entrepreneurship and development for the area”.
