Cybersecurity, Leonardo presents the Academy to promote the culture of national security

Born in Genoa Leonardo's Academy on cybersecurity. The new advanced training center created by the aerospace, defense and security company aims to provide the skills and abilities necessary to support the digital transition and deal with threats to national security. The academy, based in the Ligurian capital, will have the ability to deliver courses and seminars in Italy and abroad through various structures present in the area.

Leonardo's answer: the Cybersecurity Academy

The technological heart of the academy are the proprietary platforms Cyber range e Cyber trainers. Designed according to the principles of gamification (that is, exploiting mechanisms similar to those of games), they leverage virtualization and interoperability to simulate complex immersive operational scenarios in which to put the acquired knowledge into practice, in groups or individually, thanks to the creation of digital twins of networks, systems and applications to protect, as well as threats and tools for attack and defense.

The teaching staff will be composed of professionals in critical security domains.

In addition, the Cyber & Security Academy also represents an opportunity for the territory and the Italian training chain - reads a note from the company - by supporting Leonardo Lab and HPC davinci-1 in the industrial digitization hub created by Leonardo in Genoa and placing itself as an aggregator and federator of realities, contents and experiences.

The cyber threat is one of the most critical factors for a country

In 2021, 2.049 were registered in the world serious cyber attacks, almost 10% more than in 2020, costing around $6 trillion globally. The objectives are the most diverse: from the collection and exfiltration of sensitive data and information, to sabotage, up to the compromise of strategic infrastructures and defense capabilities of governments and institutions.

In this context, cybersecurity and intelligence activities dedicated to the monitoring, identification and analysis of cyber threats and to decision support to minimize the impact of any attacks play a fundamental role. Just as crucial are the continuous monitoring and adequate management and resolution of crises and incidents, through Security Operation Center services. For example, Leonardo's Global SOC in Chieti monitors over 4,7 million Indicators of Compromise each year, i.e. digital traces of cyber incidents.

But to protect digital ecosystems and strategic infrastructures, procedures and technologies are not enough: 85% of cyber breaches are caused by human error. According to estimates by the National Agency for National Cybersecurity, at least 100 new IT security experts are needed in Italy today, while for the World Economic Forum (The Global Risks Report 2022) the gap of security professionals in the world is 3 million . Also according to the World Economic Forum (Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2022), 59% of the world's cyberleaders would find it difficult to respond to a security incident computer security precisely because of the lack of skills within their team.

Leonardo's Cyber & Security Academy addresses these needs, to promote the culture of security and train the skills necessary to recognize the threats of physical and cyber space, to know how to understand and deal with them.
