Cyber security: anti-hacker "specialists" are growing

Since 2011 there has been a 'leap' for companies (+37%), employees (+60%) and turnover (+20%).

The worldwide growth of Cybercrime produces ever more serious damage to trade and public institutions every day and the Italian business system runs for cover. Although the perception of the risks associated with cybercrimes in our country is still very low, in recent years there has been a significant growth in the number of companies offering tools and services to combat this new threat.

According to a Unioncamere-InfoCamere elaboration on data from the Chambers of Commerce business register, between 2011 and half of the
2017 the Italian companies that claim to offer services in the field of information security or cyber-security increased by 36,8%, going from 505 to 691 units. This 'leap' in the number of operators was echoed by an almost double increase in the number of employees, which rose from 3.504 to 5.609 units in the same period. In relative terms, we are talking about a 60% growth in the five and a half years analysed, which corresponds to an average of 16 employees per company as at 30 June of this year.

“A progression which, although small in absolute terms – comments the President of Unioncamere, Ivan Lo Bello – signals a certain liveliness in an increasingly strategic sector for the healthy development of our businesses. A sector potentially capable of offering qualified employment opportunities to young people in the short to medium term. More than half of the enterprises existing at the end of last September (368) were born after 2011 and, therefore, have an average age of 3,7 years”.
