Tax wedge and VAT: Renzi holds back

The secretary of the Democratic Party, Matteo Renzi, considers it a "glamorous political error" to raise VAT, albeit selectively, to finance the reduction in the tax wedge that had already been made by the Prodi government but "it didn't work" - he said said last night at the "Porta a Porta" interview with Bruno Vespa.

Tax wedge and VAT: Renzi holds back

Matteo Renzi has never agreed on the exchange between VAT and tax wedge namely on the possibility of raising VAT, albeit selectively, to finance the reduction of the tax wedge and consequently increase net wages. He was already against it two years ago when he was at the head of the Government despite the fact that the Minister of Economy Pier Carlo Padoan seemed in favor, and he is still against it today: last night, interviewed by Bruno Vespa in "Porta a Porta", he expressed all the doubts he.

Raising VAT "would be a clamorous political mistake at a time like the one we're experiencing" because "if we keep squeezing, squeezing, squeezing, we won't make it". But Renzi also has doubts about cutting the tax wedge and says: "It didn't work with the Prodi government, but if they want to do it... I didn't do it".

Renzi then removed a few pebbles from his shoe on the most topical economic issues: vouchers? “The Prodi government invented them with Damiano as minister”. The 80 euros? "They are all good at chatting" but it was "right to do them" and the weaker employees benefited. The former prime minister also claimed that his government had removed the Imu on first homes, lowered the Rai license fee and reduced the Imu.

On the 100 flat tax for wealthy foreigners that the Gentiloni government would like to introduce, he limited himself to observing that "it can bring in foreign capital".

Renzi will probably tell the rest over the weekend at the Lingotto where he will present his program in view of the Pd primaries.
