Culture and Food, food enters the MEK Museum in Berlin

During the summer, the Museum of European Cultures (MEK) in Berlin regularly organizes European Culture Days. Every year the Museum Europäischer Kulturen presents a specific European country, region, city or cultural community through lectures, films, music, readings and exhibitions. This year, the entire summer program is dedicated to European culinary culture.

Eating and drinking is everyone's business: it satisfies basic needs, but goes beyond that culture, experience and entertainment. In times of high mobility we are increasingly absorbing different regional, international and transnational influences. Culinary migration is an important part of today's lifestyles and culture.

From a cultural-anthropological and sociological point of view, the This year's European Days of Culture will shed light on the theme of 'culinary in Europe' in its identity-creating and transcultural facets.

In the lectures and round tables the history, present and future of nutrition in Europe will be examined and the peculiarities and clichés will be examined. Culinary delights will not be neglected either: This year the Kulturtage will be developed in cooperation with numerous cooperation partners from previous cultural days, who will offer and inform about Sami, Apulian, Sardinian, Georgian, Frisian and Thessaloniki specialities. Musical performances, films and lectures on the subject complete the programme.
