Cucchi: the 5 doctors acquitted again

The Third Assizes Court of Appeal of Rome confirmed the acquittal on appeal of the 5 doctors who treated Stefano Cucchi, the thirty-two-year-old Roman surveyor, who died on 22 October 2009 after a five-day hospitalization at the Pertini hospital From Rome.

After more than three hours of deliberation, the judges decided to acquit Aldo Fierro (head physician of the prison ward of the 'Pertini' hospital in Rome) and the doctors Stefania Corbi, Flaminia Bruno, Luigi De Marchis Preite and Silvia Di Carlo because the fact does not exist. The five were convicted of manslaughter in the first instance and then acquitted on appeal. The Court of Cassation in December 2015 annulled the acquittals, ordering an appeal-bis.

The pg Eugenio Rubolino, had asked for four years in prison for Fierro and three years and six months for the other four accused doctors. A new appeal to the Supreme Court will probably follow the trial.
