Cruises: P&O goes to Malta, -100 thousand tourists

The "fly cruises" of Oceana, one of the ships of P&P Cruises, will leave Genoa starting from 2017, which thus loses the prestigious role of port of embarkation of the company in the Mediterranean, but also about 100 thousand passengers in two years. The vessel will have Malta as its summer home port.

The news was confirmed by Maltese Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis.

From next year all traffic will be concentrated in Malta, although Venice will continue to be a port of call. For Liguria remains the port of La Spezia.

The concerns about safety in the Mediterranean area also influenced the company to take the decision, which led, among other things, to the raising of alert 2 in ports for passengers. Many companies have therefore preferred to opt for Malta, abandoning traditional destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia. Suffice it to say that according to NSO statistics, during the first six months of 2016 the island was reached by 240 passengers (+6,2% compared to the same period in 2015) with a forecast of exceeding 700.000 passengers by the end of the year .
