Cristiano Ronaldo makes peace with the Spanish taxman: he will pay 18,8 million

After leaving football spain from Real Madrid to Juve, Cristiano Ronaldo also ends his troubled relationship with the Iberian taxman. He does so by writing a check to the Spanish Revenue Agency for 18,8 million euros, about two thirds of his current annual salary in black and white. The news was released by the Spanish news agency Efe.

The Iberian authorities have accepted the conciliation proposal made by the Portuguese champion. The agreement also provides for 2 years in prison, which however - obviously - CR7 will not have to serve. The sentence was suspended in exchange for the guilty plea for four different tax crimes committed between 2011 and 2014. The sum that the attacker failed to pay to the Spanish Revenue Agency totaled 14,8 million.

In particular, according to the Madrid Public Prosecutor's Office, Ronaldo would have "taken advantage of a structure created in 2010" through a series of companies based in the Virgin Islands and in Ireland "to conceal from the tax authorities the proceeds generated in Spain by image rights".

According to the reconstruction of Football Leaks, the footballer would have transferred practically tax-free over 70 million euros to the bank accounts of Tollin, a company registered in the tax haven of British Virgin Islands. A large portion of these fees would have first made their way to the accounts of two Irish companies, Mim and Polaris, which held the advertising contracts, and then made their way to the Caribbean.
