Government crisis, Salvini and Berlusconi download the 5 Stars. Grillini increasingly divided on the withdrawal of ministers

Less than 24 hours away from resignation of Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the chaos in the majority continues to grow. Fi and Lega with a joint note attack the M5S. However, the Pd answers, defining the two parties as "allies of the opposition". In the meantime, the Movement also splits, divided between the extremist line and the softer one.

The position of Lega and Forza Italia

“After what happened, the center-right government wants clarity and acknowledges that it is no longer possible to count on the 5 Star Movement in such a dramatic phase”, reads a joint note released by the two centre-right parties

“Lega and Forza Italia take note of the serious situation irresponsibly triggered political crisis by the Cinquestelle which, as underlined by the president Mario Draghi, 'made the trust pact at the basis of the government's action disappear – the note continues. You can no longer count on them. We are an alternative to those who do not vote for billions in aid for families, to those who oppose a waste-to-energy plant that is essential for cleaning up Rome and thus protecting millions of citizens, to those who defend the abuses and waste of the basic income, to those who can only say No – add the two parties – We will listen with respect and attention land considerations by Draghi, who reacted with understandable firmness in the face of irresponsibility, delays and votes against. The center-right government will continue to defend the interests of the Italians with seriousness and consistency, certainly not afraid of the judgment of the Italians".

In short, the message from Lega and Forza Italia is clear: even if a majority were to be built, the 5 Star Movement will no longer be part of it.

The answer of the Pd

However, it is not the 5 Star Movement, but the Democratic Party to respond to the accusations of Lega and Fi: “On the joint FI-Lega document, one could say from which pulpit the sermon comes from given that they are structural allies with those who do the opposition to Draghi. They cannot be beautiful souls on the one hand, with relative morals to the others, and then remain inside a permanent and unsustainable contradiction of this type - declared Enrico Borghi, member of the national secretariat of the Democratic Party, speaking at the Government Crisis Special broadcast on SkyTg24 – If you really want to support Draghi, start again from parliamentary majority that gave birth to this government transparently assuming responsibilities before the country".

What happens in the M5S?

Meantime the 5 Star Movement is increasingly divided. During the National Council convened by the leader Giuseppe Conte, the possible was discussed retirement of ministers and undersecretaries of the government before the communications to the Prime Minister's Chambers, scheduled for Wednesday. However, the exponents of the party have not been able to reach an agreement, divided between those who intend to support the hard line and those who would instead like to mend. The Minister for Relations with Parliament belongs to the second group Federico D'Incà, who also yesterday had tried in extremis to save what could be saved.

According to rumors, during today's meetings with Conte and other leading exponents of the Movement, D'Incà would have confirmed his dissent towards the hard line that emerged in the party, stating that he does not share the will to exclude new support for the Prime Minister Mario Draghi. However, through a note, the M5S would have denied that the leader Conte directly requested the withdrawal of ministers.

The position of Renzi and Calenda

“Now we need to act. We are in permanent mobilization between now and Wednesday - the day of the debate in the Chamber - to allow Draghi to move forward. We will do everything to have a Draghi Bis free from conditioning that addresses the choices necessary for the country ”, he writes in his e-news Matteo Renzi.

"We have to work for an encore of Draghi. The security of Italy requires it. But without a clear commitment from the League to abandon the 'differently 5S' line and the awareness on the part of the PD that Conte will not be able to be part of it, it is better to abstain and avoid further embarrassment ", writes the leader of Action on Twitter Carlo Calenda.

Brussels: "Russia wants to destabilize the EU"

“We do not comment on internal political developments. But it is a fact that Russia tries to destabilize the EU and the member countries,” said a spokesman for the EU Commission, Peter Stano, in response to a question about Russia's role in government crises in some European countries, including Italy. With the "misinformation" Moscow tries to influence national politics "through its internal delegates" who "may be politicians". “Classifying political actors is for countries, not for us, but we see disinformation campaigns. And the Kremlin's disinformation is sometimes used by parties” in the EU.

The use of the Kremlin's disinformation by European political actors, added Stano, "is something we observe in open sources". It is up anyway to states “to be resilient and protect yourself. But we are well aware of the fact that Russia is trying to destabilize the EU and its member states,” she concluded.

Responding remotely to Brussels' accusations is Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to whom the political crises in Great Britain and Italy "are the internal affairs of these countries" and “Moscow has nothing to do” with these developments. “Political developments in Rome are an internal Italian affair. We wish Italy all the best possible, and to be able to overcome the problems created by the previous governments. We want to have good relations with Italy”, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told Ansa.
