Government crisis and two-faced entrepreneurs: Confalonieri's (Mediaset) crushes and Lavazza's wisdom

Two entrepreneurs and two styles: Confalonieri criticizes Draghi on the war and sponsors Meloni, while Lavazza asks for a safe side for the country like that of Prime Minister Draghi

Government crisis and two-faced entrepreneurs: Confalonieri's (Mediaset) crushes and Lavazza's wisdom

La Government crisis it is the litmus test not only of the orientations of political forces, but also of those of entrepreneurs and managers. Beyond the interests they legitimately defend, there are those who care about the future of the country and those who only smooth the fur of the populists of the moment. Two interviews published in the Corriere della Sera today: one to the president of Mediaset, Faithful Confalonieri, and the other to the vice president of Lavazza, Giuseppe Lavazza.

Confalonieri skids on Draghi and the war and endorses Meloni

Confalonieri professes to be a pro-League supporter of a Bossian tendency and in fact does not miss the opportunity to dust off the more trite litanies of the Northern League arsenal, even if they are of the first hour, such as the one according to which "the unification of Italy was a mistake". If these are the assumptions of Confalonieri's thought, it is not surprising where the president of Mediaset is going with this: an attack on the premier's line Draghi about the war and the supply of weapons to Ukraine and the warm recommendation to his patron, Silvio Berlusconi, to support Giorgia Meloni, because "it is she who can bring the centre-right back to Palazzo Chigi", even if "as a girl she was a bit of a Fascist".

And to think that Confalonieri, for many years, was considered a dove in Berlusconi's entourage. Now populism and provincialism seem to have become his favorite ingredients. Like when he talks about Draghi: “Better stay at Palazzo Chigi: sure, it's not nice for a country to be a police station, but it's the fate of those who have too many debts. I don't like Draghi's line on war, on weapons. We are a nation of saints and navigators and not warriors. And the sanctions (against Russia) weaken us."

In short, scratch it, a sentiment emerges under the philolegaism pro-Putin, as in Berlusconi, even if Confalonieri is smart enough to "condemn" the aggression against Ukraine.

Lavazza: Italy needs a secure bank like Draghi's

On the other hand, the interview in the Milanese newspaper of Giuseppe Lavazza, vice president with his cousin Marco of the Piedmontese coffee multinational, who joins the chorus of those who ask Mario Draghi to remain at the helm of the Government: "Never as in this moment of strong instability on the markets, it is necessary for it to complete its tasks and, in an uncertain context, we need a safe bank in the country". That of Mario Draghi, who, according to Lavazza, "surprised us in the speed of execution - rare in the public sector - and in the strong discipline in the method of government. There is no time to lose – says the Piedmontese entrepreneur – and priority to work for young people”.

Lavazza obviously does not lose sight of corporate interests (“il coffee price runs and then there's the logistics"), but places them in a framework that harmonizes them with the general interests of the country. Those of which there is instead no serious trace in Confalonieri's words. Two entrepreneurs, two styles and two completely different sensibilities.
