Government crisis: after mid-August the vote of the Senate, Salvini does not have the numbers

Salvini's blitz fades away: the motions on the crisis will be discussed and voted in the Senate only after August XNUMXth.

Government crisis: after mid-August the vote of the Senate, Salvini does not have the numbers

The forcing of the League fails: the calendar of the crisis voted by the Senate, after the conference of the group leaders of Palazzo Madama did not obtain unanimity on the timing for convening the Chamber, provides that the intervention in Parliament by the president of the Giuseppe Conte Council, which Matteo Salvini requested by mid-August, instead it will take place after the bank holiday.

The assembly of Palazzo Madama rejected the Carroccio's request to vote no confidence in Giuseppe Conte already today and decided that the premier will report to the Chamber on Tuesday 20 August. The calendar was approved with the votes of an unprecedented majority: M5S, Pd, Leu and Autonomie.

The League did not find the numbers in the courtroom to speed things up and quickly formalize the crisis, with the consequent dissolution of the Chambers (again in the intentions of the Carroccio) and return to the polls. The FI and FdI support was not enough for Salvini. THEThe opposing front instead gathered the majority: there are 107 senators from 5S, 51 from Pd and about ten from Misto, including 4 senators from LeU, for a total of 168 votes. The 6 votes of the Autonomies group remain to be attributed, which however in this case will not make a difference.

"The calling of the Assembly - commented Elisabetta Casellati -, in the event that the calendar of works is not unanimously approved by the group leaders, does not constitute any forcing, but exclusively the application of the regulation. The art. 55, paragraph 3, in fact provides that the Assembly, which is sovereign, decides exclusively on the proposals to modify the calendar. So not the president." Conte will therefore appear in Parliament in a week, when the motion of no confidence presented by the League against him will be discussed.

The possible scenarios are all still open: in the last few hours however, after the rumors of a possible "agreement" between the 5 Star Movement and the Democratic Party for a responsible government, in order to vote on the maneuver avoiding the VAT clause, the Understood seems no longer so safe. The Democratic Party is in fact split, col Renzian front who would like to avoid the vote to neutralize Salvini, and the secretary Zingaretti who instead would more willingly accept the challenge of the polls.
