The Crimean Cold War also involves sandwiches. McDonald's has suspended the operation of its fast-food restaurants in the region in the wake of diplomatic tensions between the United States and Russia. The company said it will be supportive of its staff and hopes to reopen soon.

This is the second company to stop its activities in Crimea after the crisis between Moscow and the West has escalated. The first was Deutsche Post, which on Thursday announced it was no longer accepting letters from the region.

"Due to operational reasons that go beyond our will - writes McDonald's - the company has taken the decision to temporarily close 3 of our restaurants in Simferopol, Sevastopol and Yalta".

According to the Reuters news agency, the group would have offered employees the opportunity to be hired in other fast food restaurants in Ukraine.
