In October grows the number of employed, driven upwards (+0,2%, equal to +35 thousand units) only by men. At the same time, the number of unemployed also rose, growing due to the sharp drop recorded among inactive people between the ages of 15 and 64 (-0,6%, equal to -79 thousand units). Istat communicates it, through the usual monthly update.
The increase in employment, which has concerned only men, we remember, involves above all employees, people aged 15-24 and over 50. The employment rate rises to 58,6% (+0,1 points).
The unemployment rate. To determine the rise is above all the decline in inactive people (-79 thousand on September and -425 thousand on an annual basis). In numbers, people looking for work in the month increased by 51 while they decreased by 139 over the year. Employed people grew by 35 over September. The unemployed reached 2 million 373 thousand units in October.
“Comparing the quarter August-October 2021 with the previous one (May-July), a 0,2% higher level of employment was observed, with an increase of 42 units”, underlines Istat, according to which, compared to pre-pandemic levels, the number of employed is lower by almost 200 thousand units.
“The growth in employment observed in September continued in October, with an increase of more than two months 140 thousand employed; compared to January 2021, the increase exceeds 600 employed and is exclusively due to the resumption of employee work. The employment rate is 1,8 percentage points higher” – comments Istat, noting that “Compared to pre-pandemic levels (February 2020) the number of employed is almost 200 fewer; the employment rate, equal to 58,6%, is lower by 0,1 points, the unemployment rate decreased from 9,7% to 9,4%, while the inactivity rate, now at 35,2%, it is 0,4 points higher”.
